  6. Ulead Viewer for Windows is a powerful
  7. viewing/converting utility that allows you to
  8. quickly preview, open, view, corp, save, save
  9. to other format, and make minor modifications
  10. to image files.  This version supports BMP,
  11. CGM, EPS, GIF, JPEG, PCD, PCX, TGA, TIFF, and
  12. WMF file formats.

  18. This uncrippled image handling program is free, no questions
  19. asked!

  21. Why are we doing this? Because the need for fast and
  22. accurate communication becomes more critical every day. Now,
  23. more than ever, much of it is taking place over networks,
  24. BBSs and the Internet. And a lot consists of multimedia
  25. files. Ulead specializes in multimedia solutions. Consider
  26. them a gift to help all of us communicate better.

  28. *************  What is Ulead Viewer?  ***************
  29.  
  30. Viewer is a powerful viewing utility that allows you to
  31. quickly open, view, save, and make minor modifications to
  32. image files. You can zoom in to 8x and out to 1/8x size
  33. according to your needs. As a stand-alone program, you can
  34. open practically any image in Viewer by dragging it from
  35. File-Manager or through its Open dialog box.  When used with
  36. File Manager, double-clicking on an image in File Manager
  37. automatically shows it in Ulead Viewer, (as long as the
  38. image type is associated with Ulead Viewer in your system).
  39. Viewer allows you crop unwanted portions of images and has a
  40. unique "global viewer" that helps you navigate about images
  41. that are larger than their windows.  By openiing a file in
  42. one format and then saving to another, Viewer allows you to
  43. do file conversion.  You can open multiple viewer instances
  44. and use 'Tile', 'Always On Top', and other commands to
  45. arrange and compare them on the desktop.

  47. *****************  File Formats Supported  *****************

  49. This version of Ulead Viewer supports the following file
  50. formats:

  52. BMP   A popular device-independent Windows file format. This
  53.       format can be understood by practically any Windows
  54.       program that supports graphics. One popular use for
  55.       this format is to create wallpaper and patterns for
  56.       the Windows desktop. Viewer fully supports this
  57.       format.
  58.  
  59. CGM   A device independent graphics file format well suited
  60.       for two-dimensional CAD drawings. This format is
  61.       widely accepted by many programs. Viewer can only read
  62.       these files and save them to other formats.

  64. EPS   A device independent file format for PostScript
  65.       printing and file exchange. Viewer can only read and
  66.       write to the raster component of this format.
  67.  
  68. GIF   A popular file format developed by Compuserve for
  69.       exchanging Image data via modem. The GIF format
  70.       supports indexed 16- and 256- Color formats as well as
  71.       Grayscale and Black and White. Viewer fully supports
  72.       this format.

  74. JPEG  An industry standard file format developed by the
  75.       Joint Photographers Experts Group for file exchange.
  76.       This True Color or Grayscale format offers superior
  77.       compression of large images, sometimes achieving
  78.       ratios up to 100 to 1. However, it uses a lossy
  79.       compression method which means that some data is
  80.       irreversibly altered during compression. For on-line
  81.       use, the losses are rarely noticeable. Viewer fully
  82.       supports this format.

  84. PCD   This proprietary format was created by Eastman Kodak
  85.       for putting photographs on CDs. PCD files
  86.       simultaneously support Grayscale, Indexed 256-Color,
  87.       and RGB True Color data types. Viewer can only read
  88.       PCD files and save them to other formats.

  90. PCX   A popular format for some scanning packages and
  91.       painting programs, this format supports Black and
  92.       White, 256-color, Grayscale, Hi Color, RGB True Color,
  93.       and CMYK True Color. Viewer fully supports this
  94.       format.

  96. TGA   Developed by TrueVision for its full color video
  97.       boards, this format has gained wide acceptance for
  98.       many video capture applications. It supports
  99.       Grayscale, Indexed 256-Color, Hi Color, and True Color
  100.       data types. Viewer fully supports this format.

  102. TIFF  Developed to promote using desktop scanners and DTP
  103.       applications on a PC, this format has become very
  104.       popular and is supported by many programs across all
  105.       platforms. It supports Black and White, Grayscale,
  106.       Indexed 16- and 256-Color, and RGB and CMYK True Color
  107.       data types. To control file size, it uses PackBits,
  108.       CCITT G3 1-D, and other compression methods. Viewer
  109.       fully supports this format.

  111. WMF   A device independent file format that supports both
  112.       vector and raster components. This format supports
  113.       Black and White, Indexed 16- and 256-Color, and RGB
  114.       True Color data types. It is a widely accepted format
  115.       among modern Windows-based programs. Viewer can read
  116.       all WMF files and save raster-based ones.

  120. To run these programs on your system, you must have the
  121. following:

  124. *  MS-Windows v. 3.1 (or higher)
  125. *  Microsoft Mouse (or compatible)
  126. *  At least 2.2 MB disk space (for program files)

  130. After downloading ULVIEW10.EXE, follow these steps to
  131. install the programs on your system:
  132.  
  133. 1.  Create a temporary directory and place ULVIEW10.EXE in
  134.     it, (ex. C:\TEMP).  For EXE file, run it by using the
  135.     Run command,
  136.  
  137.                ULVIEW10

  139.     The program will self extract.  Or, extract the ZIP file
  140.     with PKUNZIP,
  141.  
  142.                PKUNZIP ULVIEW10.ZIP

  144. 2.  Open File Manager and double-click on the INSTALL.EXE program.
  145.     Or, use the Run command to execute INSTALL.EXE program.

  147. 3.  Follow the instructions on screen and click OK.
